Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 in dramatic fashion on Monday, May 29, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 4 wickets in the final.




Chasing a target of 171 in 15 overs due to rain, CSK got off to a slow start, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (10) and Devon Conway (16) both dismissed inside the powerplay. However, Ambati Rayudu (57) and MS Dhoni (38*) put on a 70-run partnership to get CSK back on track.




With 10 runs needed off the last over, Dhoni hit the first ball for a six. He then hit the next ball for a single, leaving CSK needing 4 runs off 3 balls. Dhoni then hit the third ball for another single, leaving CSK needing 3 runs off 2 balls. Dhoni then hit the fourth ball for a boundary, winning the match for CSK.


The win was CSK's fifth IPL title, equaling the record held by Mumbai Indians. It was also Dhoni's third IPL title as captain.


Dhoni was named the player of the match for his unbeaten 38 off 28 balls. He hit 3 fours and a six in his innings.


CSK's win was a fitting end to a season in which they were the most consistent team. They finished the regular season at the top of the table and then won all three of their playoff matches.


The win was also a major boost for Dhoni, who had been under pressure after CSK failed to make the playoffs in the previous two seasons.


Dhoni's future as a player is still uncertain, but he has shown that he is still capable of leading CSK to victory. It will be interesting to see if he decides to play on in the next season of the IPL.


In the meantime, CSK fans can enjoy their fifth IPL title. It was a long time coming, but it was worth the wait.
